when it first emerged back in 1995, it went for over a grand – about $1,400.00, to be exact. As you can see, however, despite being 13 years old, this Ferragmo purse could easily hold its own today with the most top of the line, designer house bags.  in fact, this purse will still be the height of sleek.

Like say, though, I like the bag itself. Shopping handbag – apparently, they actually needed to let us know it’s red, as if we could not tell that it is the same color as the substance which leaks from our eyeballs whenever we look at it. It’s made of calfskin leather, which is absolutely sumptuous.  The only problem is that you can’t possibly carry it around without searing the corneas of everyone you pass.

Entirely hand-made and using original constructions, lasts and hides, they are collectors’ pieces, the beginning of a limited and truly exclusive series. These special products, “revivals” in fact, carry the original Ferragamo label inside -”Ferragamo’s Creations”- dating from 1927 and designed by the futurist painter Lucio Venna. Such icons of luxury clearly required a special place. So an area inside the Salvatore Ferragamo flagship stores was created, starting from Florence. It’s called Ferragamo’s Creations and is styled like the Ferragamo atelier in Palazzo Spini Feroni in the Forties and Fifties, its baroque rooms having the atmosphere of a refined yet homely drawing room – to use Salvatore Ferragamo’s own words – where customers feel they are special guests and where every woman can feel she’s a princess and every princess a queen.

I am absolutely enamored. Currently, I am in love with approximately seven Ferragamo handbags, but they seem okay with the arrangement so I don’t mind introducing a new model into the mix. Because it is metallic. And also because it is called the Salvatore Ferragamo patent satchel and I am generally attached to anything that reminds me of Lord of the Rings, even though it’s a total coincidence. This is lovely. This is heaven in a handbag and I want it so badly I could cry.

In general, I like my purses simple. Sometimes I get in the mood for something with a lot of pockets on the outside, but I have bags for that mood. They correspond with my punk fashion days and it all works out nicely. I love the way the silhouette of this bag is clean and sleek, yet the structure and design itself is gorgeously complicated. What you are seeing here are separate strips of decadent Shiny calfskin which have been stitched together in order to create that intricate stripped pattern you see. Ferragamo’s signature silver logo takes center stage, creating the perfect accent piece. Needless to say, all those pieces of Shiny calfskin are also metallic, lending the entire purse a glimmering sheen.

It comes in two colors, Purple and Black. Shiny calfskin makes a perfect match with nickel Gancio hardware on a softly gathered bag. As you can see, this particular Ferragamo purse , the one pictured above, specifically – Choose  chocolate nappa leather. Nickel-plated brass hardware.Shoulder straps with rings. Flap top with signature Gancini bit. Buckled sides. Canvas lining. Interior zip, open, and cell phone pockets. 11 3/4″H x 17 3/4″W x 9″D.but I couldn’t find a picture of the black bag that I liked enough to showcase. Anyway, I think the color is the least important part of this purse.

See, it’s the design of this bag that has me doing cartwheels – figuratively speaking, because the last time I tried to do a cartwheel, I was about eleven and I almost broke my neck and shattered my skull simultaneously. Adolescence; fun times! Anyhow, I love-love-love the design of this bag. I absolutely adore it. You know what gets me the most? That strap – that is literally the most awesome purse strap I have ever seen. It’s like a chain. Meaning that all of you professionals out there with a little punk running through your veins, a little grunge instilled in your heart, can feel perfectly legit when you carry this ferragamo purse into work with you.
